These Thrashers are raising my blood pressure to unhealthy levels.
Pretty exciting game tonight. I thought after the 1st were going to have a great night, but the wheels sort of fell off a bit there in the 2nd. Luckily we had a little more Kovy/Hossa magic action. It almost seems like Kovy has gotten in the psyche of Tampa a bit–even when they are up by 2 or 3 goals with a few minutes left, he still manages to come back and make them pay. Its awesome. I’m certainly not complaining.
I was happy with the effort of our guys for the whole night, save a few minutes there in the 2nd. We really have done a much better job of possessing the puck and challenging our opponent at the blue line. I am soo much happier with Klee and Havelid paired up–they really look much better together than they did with Ex and Zhitnik, respectively. Enstrom continues to be our best D-man on the ice. While he did get deked on the St. Louis goal, he absolutely saved the game early in OT when he stripped LeCavalier. He plays with such a quiet confidence, it is hard to believe he is so young.
Moose had a solid game, though not totally spectacular. I still say he is our #1 goalie until Kari gets better. I do think he needs a rest after every 2 or 3 games though, so I’m glad we have a solid backup in the Kid.
I don’t know what it is about this season, but I never panic, even when we are down a few in the 3rd. They have been able to make so many good comebacks this year. It really is amazing. Now, I’d love it if we weren’t in the position to have to come back in the first place, but it seems we play our best hockey when our backs are against the wall.
Kovy and Hossa are on a hell of a streak. Hossa seemed to be all over the ice, and when he wasn’t making a play, he was drawing a crowd (which allowed White to score that OT goal so easily). And Hossa had a sick pass to Little in the 3rd–you can’t pass it any better than that. (Little had a great goal, but for most of the game he seemed to have a case of the Jimmy Slater–skate really well but can’t handle the puck).
You just can’t say enough about Kovy. Who else is going to tie the game up with minutes left, especially against Tampa? That goal was exactly why Hossa and Kovy should be on the same line with the game on the line.
I thought the Larsen/Dupuis line looked great – I’m not going to call it the Holik line, more on that in a minute. Whenever we needed a spark in the first two, they went out there and gave it to them. Dupuis’ move to free up the puck on the first goal was classic. It was as if he was 5 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier. That line is scrappy, that is why they are out there.
Not so much impressed with Holik tonight. He’s lucky he didn’t get an interference call on that “let me just lay here on this guy in the crease move”, and then he lets him up and just stands there while he scores a goal. Not solid Bobby. Do something to get the lead out, fast.
Not a lot of glaring mistakes tonight. Could have used better referees
, a bit more energy in the 2nd, but otherwise I like where this team is headed.
But can anyone tell me why our PK is more effective at creating scoring chances than our PP? (Save that 5 on 3 in the third when we scored, finally). If I had to find something wrong, I guess that’d be it.
We are a .500 hockey team. Who would have thought THAT in October?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I’ll be away from blogland until the weekend. Don’t forget, Friday’s game is free Thrashers Blanket night. Snag me one if you go!
